A Dynamic Campaign Begins

This spring as people begin to enjoy the outdoors, they can get even more excited about gearing up. On Earth Day the Missouri Stream Team Watershed Coalition in conjunction with Dynamic Earth, one of Missouri’s premier outdoor retailers,  launches the “Water Wins” campaign to raise funds for the Missouri Stream Team program and the volunteers who work to protect and improve the state’s 110,000 miles of streams.

“This is a really exciting campaign that allows the outdoor enthusiast to make a positive impact off the trail by purchasing items that will in turn financially help efforts to protect a resource they value.” commented Holly Neill, Executive Director of MSTWC. Water Wins is a year long charitable partnership between select retailers and brands that value the health of our streams and waterways.

Beyond playing an instrumental role in its conception and deployment, Dynamic Earth is the first retailer to join in the Water Wins campaign with their store in Springfield, Missouri, but MSTWC anticipates it becoming a statewide collaboration. “Unfortunately our river systems become waste channels if they are not cared for which is destructive on multiple levels. Water Wins was a way we could confidently make a difference, and I hope other retailers come to the party.” said Matt O’Reilly, owner of Dynamic Earth.

MSTWC is secure in its hopes that the Water Wins wave will catch on because global brands like La Sportiva, Icebreakers, and Petzl have given it their seal of approval. Neill says, “The fact that these players in the outdoor market believe in what we are doing means a lot, and it gives MSTWC and Water Wins the power to make a bigger difference.”

As part of the program retailers and gear makers work together to select products that are tagged throughout the stores as “Water Wins” items. If a shopper chooses to purchase a “Water Wins” item, a significant portion of that sale will be donated to MSTWC at no additional cost to them.  The donation comes to MSTWC through shared giving between the retailer and the brand.

On its launch one of the first things you notice is the Water Wins products selected aren’t last seasons close out items. Top of the line new and innovative products from Arcteryx, MSR, and Marmot sport Water Win labels. Also to give back in a big way Big Agnes, Osprey, Cascade Designs, and Therm-A-Rest put their best foot forward as part of the program.

Water Wins will support the ongoing efforts of Missouri Stream Teams and the Watershed Coalition to do more of the critical work needed on our waterways. Work like stream bank restorations, clean ups, water quality monitoring and public education that wouldn’t be entirely possible without the support from great companies like Jet Boil, Katadyn, and Confluence Watersports. So in the end, great gear + great customers means Water Wins.
